DIY Fake Grocery Products for Commercial Shoots

For a recent SNAP commercial shoot, we faced a classic challenge: filming in a grocery store full of brand logos we didn’t have permission to show. On top of that, we had just 5 hours to complete a full-day shoot, so speed and efficiency were crucial.

To solve this, I designed a series of fake logos for fictional companies and pre-wrapped over 50 cans for interchangeable use throughout the aisles. For areas where logos were especially problematic, I created a larger, removable logo that could be applied directly to products. Using regular computer paper with scotch tape made the process quick, clean, and allowed us to donate all extra food after the shoot. I also left the store’s original products in place, just pushing them back to make room for the “fake” products, so we didn’t have to track every item. Reset photos were a key part of keeping everything organized throughout the day.
