Creative Inspiration: Good Hang with Amy Poehler

Creativity can often feel like a lonely and daunting path filled with self-doubt, pressure, and that ever-present imposter syndrome. Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Talk is a breath of fresh air. It creates a space where creativity is messy, human, and delightfully imperfect.

Each week, Amy invites friends, celebrities, and fellow creatives into her studio. The conversations are honest and cover a wide range of topics such as sleep routines, food habits, first jobs, menopause, the creative process and more. Nothing is too small or too big to discuss. What is beautiful about this podcast is that it shows even people who have “made it” deal with the same insecurities and struggles as everyone else.

What I find especially inspiring is how Amy invites friends of her guests to talk behind their backs. This is not gossip but a way to celebrate and appreciate each other. In an industry often seen as cutthroat and competitive, it is wonderful to hear stories of genuine support and care. It reminds me that creative journeys do not have to be solitary. Lifting one person up lifts many others as well.

As Amy’s official blurb says:“Each week on her podcast, she welcomes celebrities and fun people to her studio. It is a real creative love fest. They share stories about careers, mutual friends, shared enthusiasms, and most importantly, what has been making them laugh. This podcast is not about trying to make you better or giving advice. Amy just wants to have a good time.”

Listening to Good Talk reminds me of the kind of warmth and relaxation I want in every creative space I enter. It is built on honesty, humor, and mutual support.

One of my favorite episodes features the hilarious duo Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. They perfectly embody the spirit of friendship and support that Amy fosters on the show. Check it out!
